Introduction:
The Enlightenment was a time of great intellectual awakening. The Enlightenment was an age of reasoning. The Enlightenment
began where the Dark Ages had ended. The movement started in Europe during the 18th century. There was no longer a fear of
the darkness but a curiosity of the unknown. People now used logic and reasoning to contest ignorance and unfounded fears
in order to create a better society. During the Enlightenment, beliefs in laws that governed the world and universe arose.
A scientific approach was taken on everything from politics to social issues. Books that contained scientific research were
now being published. There were many influential people during the Enlightenment. Montesquieu, Voltaire, Jean Jacques Rousseau
and David Hume were just a few of the famous figures associated with this movement. One of the most recognizable figures among
the ranks of these men was John Locke. His works of writing were some of the most influential during the time.

"Good and evil, reward and punishment, are the only motives to a rational creature: these are the spur and reins whereby
all mankind are set on work, and guided."
